The Unsung Heroes in the Festival of Democracy
The year 2024 has been one of the busiest for various democracies across the globe including India. The world witnessed different types of Elections and got a feel of global politics and the perception about campaigns revolving around these. India witnessed the Dance of Democracy in its most elaborate form during Lok Sabha elections. Then came State Assembly elections in different states, latest being Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
Day before, the curtains came down on the most talked about and the most anticipated state assembly elections of 2024 i.e. the Maharashtra State Assembly elections. Not denying the fact that Jharkhand has also been in the news but Maharashtra took the lead due to the sheer size of its electorate as well as the total assembly seats in the election fray. A lot has been written and spoken about it already and we can expect much more for a few more days as we all eagerly await the election results on coming Saturday, 23rd November 2024.What has not been spoken or discussed or highlighted is the key role played during the election and most importantly on the voting day by none other than –
- Staff & Employees of the State Election Commission and the local administration
- The teachers and government employees roped in for election duties
- The volunteers from all backgrounds – age, gender, caste, religion, profession etc.
- The Police and the Defence personnel
- The political and social workers from different organizations and last but not the least
- Common people providing general assistance and any specific help needed during this festival of democracy in Maharashtra.
They all deserve our admiration, applause and appreciation in making Elections a great success. The increase in the voting numbers itself is a testimony to their dedication and hard work. Knowing the call of the duty, the hardships they endured during the process starting with the very fact that they had to leave the comfort of their homes as well as their family, then the traveling woes, sanitation facilities, weather & climate, infrastructural challenges, food etc. the list can be endless.
Most importantly, during the entire process of voting, pre and post arrangement and responsibilities, they all greeted the electorate with a smile and went beyond the call of duty including the extended work hours accommodating and comforting all, so that voting became an exalting experience for all.
Here’s loud cheers and salute to our Unsung, Unspoken and Unheard HEROES who are, and remain the Lifeline of the Success of our Electorate!!!
